Natur. Regelt.
I worked with some great people from HFF (University of Television and Film) to realize their vision of a great piece of advertzing.
Previz
I created this short previz to show the producer and the regisseur what the final shot could look like.
Main FX Shot
The main FX shot is comprised of quite a few parts:
On set, I did a 3D scan of the entire environment, so scene assembly would be a breeze later on. I captured the lighting data as an HDRi, as well as a color palette and some lens distortion grids with all the camera lenses we used for this project.
I modeled the pavillon, built a relatively complex fracturing setup and ran a few wedged RBD simulations as well as the smoke simulation through TOPs. There's another, smaller RBD sim, too, for the debris lying atop the roof.
In Nuke, I isolated all the elements I needed for the final composition, some by rotoscoping, some with a mix of multiple luma-keys, and then put them back together.
A few mistakes happened along the way but it turned out pretty well and I learned a whole lot.
The Boys
The regisseur was very clear: The boys are harassing the protagonist in an otherwise empty park, so the people in the background had to vanish. I stabilized the shot, slightly animated the rotoscoping masks, transferred the inverse of the stabilization to the masks and had thus replaced the necessary areas in the background. For the bush on the left, I copy-stamped suitable areas to fill the holes.
Please excuse the horrible editing, it was the first time I did a breakdown like this.
Packshot
Sadly, the packshot did not make it into the final ad but I want to show it here anyways. Merging the destroyed pavillon into the out of focus plate was quite challenging but I think it turned out great.
